The Crosby-N. Gray & Company Funeral Home In The Late 1940's

Few funeral homes in California can compare with Crosby - N. Gray & Company for reputation and length of distinguished service to the community. Our history starts in 1850, when a young funeral director named Nathaniel Gray came west from New York City and founded “N. Gray and Co.” in San Francisco. Years later, Gray’s established a branch funeral home in Burlingame… where “William F. Crosby & Co. Morticians” had been established in 1926.

In 1945, under the leadership of funeral director William J. Crosby, the two firms became one and the grand colonial building at 2 Park Road in Burlingame was built. With it’s classic columns and beautiful award-winning flower gardens, the Crosby-N. Gray funeral home is a Peninsula landmark, easily seen from the El Camino Real at Peninsula Avenue. The third and fourth generation of family ownership proudly continues today under John F. Crosby, grandson of the founder, and his son Cody Crosby.

We Invite Comparison

Almost every day we meet with families who are not prepared to make a good decision about the choice of a funeral director. Important considerations about choosing a funeral home should include:

  • Quality of the funeral home’s facilities
  • Reputation in the community
  • Friendliness
  • Knowledge and experience of the staff
  • Willingness to accommodate your needs
  • Sensitivity to each culture and faith
  • Wide and flexible ranges of funeral and cremation service options
  • Merchandise at fair prices.

Elderly couple walking in woodsAn important factor to consider when choosing a funeral director is the funeral home’s reputation within the community. Crosby - N. Gray & Company is and has been a locally owned, independent funeral home actively serving the Burlingame community for over 150 years.

As a privately-owned funeral home with long-term community involvement, we are better able to assist you with your choices in comparison to conglomerate or corporate-owned funeral providers. Many corporate or “chain” funeral and cremation service providers offer limited types of services and inflated prices. Our funeral directors offer personalized care and attention that you can depend on.

We invite you to visit the Crosby-N. Gray & Company funeral home in Burlingame, where you will be warmly welcomed, your wishes will be listened to, and questions answered with the kindness and helpfulness that are hallmarks of our service.
